Old Stuff 3

After my little story about my nephew Connor, I had several people ask if I made him a quilt. Well of course I did LOL. This quilt is close to 16 years old now and has had a LOT of use. He would drag it out of his room in the morning, lie it nice and flat on the floor and then roll himself up in it. That quilt has been to Seattle, Michigan, Colorado, back to Michigan and back to Seattle. It's been drug around, used as a tent, snuggled under for story time, been sat on at the rocky beaches of the Puget Sound in Washington and the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan and in mountain meadows for picnics and even mom has snagged it for a little afternoon nap. If a kid could spill something, it got spilled and ground into that quilt. It is the softest quilt in the world from the bazillion washings it's had. I finally had to repair a few seams, add some extra quilting to stablize the repairs (none of the original quilting needed fixing) and put a new binding on it about 4 years ago and it has been retired to the linen closet for the day when Connor gets married and has a child. There's a lot of happy memories in this quilt.

This quilt is also hand pieced and hand quilted and is a perfect example of how well a hand made quilt will hold up to the abuse a boy can dish out.

PS - There is a new blog out there that you might like to check out. Tell Beth at Busy Happy Hands that I sent you :0)

That sounds like the perfect quilt!! A quilt that has been through every life adventure with a growing child is a real treasure!!!

I hope the next generation enjoys that quilt as much!

Hi Crispy, lovely idea to showcase older quilts.

Tell me that the photo of the boat quilt (totally neat pattern by the way!) is from 16 years ago, otherwise tell me how you've kept it white!! :)

That pattern is so very neat! What's it called?

Cheers,
Christine

I always find it funny that so many people think that a hand pieced/hand quilted quilt is not strong and good for every day use. I have heard so many people say that they machine piece and quilt a baby quilt because they want it to be used - well I have done like you and the quilts have been used and then saved and are now being used by a second generation!

A sail boat quilt is perfect for a little boy. This one is especially nice done in blue & white. And it has held up so well.

Such a great story behind that quilt. And it is great to see that has still been taken care of.
I have been to Beth's blog. I look forward to seeing the things she does.

Oh I love sailboats! I've been working, albeit slowly, on a sailboat quilt for Nicholas.

I love the softness of this one. Excellent work! Glad it held up under LOVE!
