I've been sewing together the 9 patches that have the background fabric already cut out. The rest, 26 of them, will be worked on while I'm with my sewing group. I'm hoping to have this little project ready to take with me at the end of the month, when I take the train back to Seattle. A nice size project for hand quilting :0)
I have also been working on the Row Robin. Here are the last two blocks that I will be showing. The next picture you will see of this project is after I get the last 24 blocks quilted. This is one of my favorite blocks. It was paper pieced but the gal who made them did not trim the seam allowances and almost hit the edge of the fabric in some spots. I took them all apart and remade them. Can't have all that bulk when you are hand quilting!!

This is the block that I made for myself and all the other participants in my group. It's a pattern designed by Marcia at Quilter's Cache and is called Best Friends. I hand pieced them for the participants but it's also the only block I have ever paper pieced. I wanted to see if I could actually do it....I did, but it took a LOT of ripping out LOL.

As soon as I get done with the last 6 9 patches I have preped, I'm going to do up a tutorial on curved hand piecing. I will be adding this tutorial to my Hand Piecing blog. I don't know why I didn't think of curved piecing when I put the blog together but with a little nudge from Janet, I will correct my omission :0). I'm thinking of doing a Drunkards Path block and then adding a simple New York Beauty block as a bonus, like these:

I'll let you know when the blog has been updated.
Well, I better get back to those 9 patches. Oh, I did get all my windows washed so that chore is done until next spring :0)

How do you get such wonderful pictures of your quilting? The blocks both look great!
Yaaay for clean windows - and I love the quilting and the blocks.
Seattle is drawing you back to it again - you will have a good visit I am sure.
Love the quilting - I don't know why I have never done the New York Beauty - I love them!

How do you find quilting through the white background? It looks like the pattern is "painted" on. It has always made me think it would be harder than normal to poke the needle through.I have always saved it for the machinist.
Looking forward to curved piecing your way. I am doing New York Beauty project and have dropped it due to curves.
I love your houses surrounded by those 9-patch blocks. Made me smile right away.
Exciting stuff going on here, Crispy! I love how the houses are coming together, such a great use for them. And "simple" new york beauty? Is there a more complicated version??? :)
I have a drunkard's path on my list, but the curved piecing is keeping me unmotivated. Mine will be machine-pieced of course, I haven't jumped the hand-piecing barrier yet. Some day, some day. I know where to go when I need advice, i.e. your other blog!
UGH! You reminded me that I need to wash my windows. I love the house blocks with the 9 patches - that is going to be so cute together.
Love those 9 patch house blocks! Your row robin blocks are beautiful, I adore blue and white. xo
As usual, I love all of your blocks. I really look forward to the new tutorial. There is a SBS block that I have to do that looks exactly like the one you showed. YAY!!
Crispy, I think a good tutorial would be on aleviating bulk from the backs of blocks :)
Your hand quilting is always so beautiful :)
Great blocks and fantastic quilting. Yes please, a tutorial on curved piecing would be most appreciated. Ann :-)
I always love coming by and seeing what fun things you are up too..your hand quilting is just lovely, the back is just as pretty as the front.
What can I say, your quilting is so greate! Love your winky house and it looks gorgeous with those nine patches. I guess that your choice of block to the Row Robin not was an accident. Its an lovely ida to sew a block called BEST FRIENDS :o) LOVE IT !!!
Those houses look great and I'm impressed that you took the whole block out. I have one I need to take out from a group, then maybe I could get the blocks sewn together. Love the Best Friends block what a nice idea. Your quilting is always lovely. Looking forward to seeing your hand sewn drunkards path and NYB blocks.
Woot, Woot, will be waiting for the tutorial. Thanks crispy!
