A This, That and The Other Thing Type Post....

So I guess you all have been wondering what I have been up to lately, besides traveling to Seattle and working 6 days straight. Here is what I have been doing and what I plan on doing and what has changed as of today.

WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING.....

On my trip to Seattle I took that dang blasted NYB quilt with me to work on. I didn't put a single stitch into it, though it served nicely as a blankie on the train. Instead I knitted during my whole trip. I made a pretty pair of socks for my sister, which I forgot to take a picture of, but they came out so pretty and she really loves them. I also taught myself how to knit continental style, which is holding the yarn in my left hand. This took me 3 days to conquer and now I can do it without any thought. I made all these little preemie hats to donate to the local hospital. They are so soft and sweet :0)

WHAT I PLAN ON DOING.....

Though the knitting has been a lot of fun and I will probably always have something on the needles, I find that my fingers are itching to get back into quilting. I have finally figured out what has been killing my quilting mojo, it's that the dang blasted NYB quilt. I have given myself permission to shove it back into the closet with the Dear Jane, both of which will not be seeing the light of day until next winter (or even longer) and work on something else. The first something else will be to hand quilt the Wonky House quilt:

I'm in the mood for something more light hearted than that dang blasted NYB and this will fit the bill nicely.

I'm also going shopping this week for back ground fabric so I can start the Stars and Sprigs quilt:

I'm going to do this in all brights and have a fine collection to start with, though I may have to pick up more IF I "accidentally" find something new :0) This project has both applique and hand piecing so it should keep me motivated for a long time!

WHAT HAS CHANGED AS OF TODAY....

I have finally taken a small step into the 21st century and upgraded to broadband internet today WHOO HOO!! As of Saturday, May 28th, I will be shutting down my Net Zero account, so please change my e-mail address to:

crispybrin[at]westriv[dot]com

Next step will be to upgrade my cable so I can have a DVR and maybe even someday soon I'll actually get a cell phone LOL.

ONE MORE THING.....

I have to show you what I received in the mail the other day. Many of you know Betsy at Quilting Fiesta. Well, she won the Roseville Album pattern in my giveaway and as a thank you she sent me these lovely gifts. First this pretty towel which I promptly hung on my antique gas stove:

She also sent me this cute tote pattern:

I was so happy that she won the pattern as she told me that she has been coveting it for a year. It's always nice to know something is really needed :0)

Well, I guess that's all I have to report on right now. I'll be back if I find something irresistable at the quilt shops :0)

welcome to the modern era :) you will love your new internet service provider I bet.
Sometimes quilting projects do have to be put aside so that we can enjoy it again and just start a new project as you are doing. I know the only reason I ever finished Dear Jane two times is because of the many breaks I took working on other things.
Are you going to do all that applique on that pattern? so much work to do on that one.

The baby hats are adorable. Good for you for putting that quilt away, sometimes I get bogged down with a quilt also. Have fun working with the bright fabrics this summer, what fun!

Well Crispy - it's your hobby and its supposed to be fun! I'm sure the NYB will enjoy DJ's company in the closet for awhile. Good decision! I can't wait to see your Stars and Sprigs develop - its such a gorgeous pattern.
Those baby hats are so extremely adorable - you will make some moms very happy.

Hi Chris. It is great to read a post from you. I have slacked so much in that area this year. It sounds like you made a wise decision in putting the 'dang blasted NYB' away for a while. The Wonky House quilt is so very cute. Have fun quilting this. Wonderful gifts you received from Betsy. Have a good evening.

Wow! You are a woman on a mission!! I love all your upgrading...I'm upgrading this week as well, but not having near as much fun doing it as you are! I've spent the week interviewing contractors arranging for a new hot water heater and a new roof for the house. The hats are so cute and will look so fetching on new noggins. I'm so glad you are starting the S & S quilt...we can do it together!

In stitches,
Teresa :o)

Those hats are too cute!! I wish there were knitting classes by me, I would definitely try.

OK, I saw that pattern you are going to start. I have been eying it wondering if I could do it. I can't wait to see yours come to life.

You were certainly very productive on your recent trip. Those hats are adorable! I learned to knit continental when I was a kid and have always wondered how anyone could knit the american way....it seems so awkward. But, that's only because it's not something I know how to do. I bet it would take me a lot longer than 3 days to grasp it. You amaze me at how quickly you catch on to things. I can't believe you don't have a cell phone. I'm not up with the lastest/greatest technology either (and frankly don't want to be), but I do have a cell phone! lol

YAY for some "techie" progress for you. I love those premie caps you made. That new quilt you are starting with the bright fabrics looks more intimidating to me than a Dear Jane....LOL

Betsy is the best.

I just love the caps and the projects you have in mind to do. You always do amazing work.

Well, I'm glad you have everything worked out. I think sometimes it is a good thing to put projects away for a time. Wonderful gifts from Betsy and the hats are so darn cute!

Sometimes you just have to put something away for a while. The new project looks like something you will enjoy.

Love the newborn hats - so sweet.

Well welcome to the 21st century!! Cell phones are a blessing and a curse, but I couldn't live without mine. I am struggling without my computer. The hats are so cute. I am excited to see the houses make a return too.

Crispy, Those little hats are the sweetest! Lucky mothers and babies who get those :)

I'm not much for technology, either, though I do have a cell phone. I guess the only reason I have that is because DH forced it on me LOL :)

That Stars and Sprigs quilt should keep you busy for a while!
