Yesterday, I cut apart the HUGE pattern of the applique blocks and drew the Star block in EQ.....I'm putting a 9 patch in each of my stars instead of having that big empty space:
I also drew up the applique block in EQ. I prefer making my stems as one piece when possible. I don't care for the lumpiness of having stems under other stems and I get to avoid making yards and yards of bias stems :0) Also, I can print right onto freezer paper for my templates. This is what the original block looked like:

This is my EQ drawing:
For those of you who do not use your EQ7 very much, the Brush Stroke tool is wonderful for drawing stems. You can make them any width you need, has several options for the ends and change the contour of the stem...making them wide at one end and narrow at the other or both ends or not. A wonderful tool to use when drawing applique.
I will be working the next 10 out of 11 days so it may take me a while to get the first block done but will be back to show you when I have time :0)

I know your block is going to be great. Might as well make it as easy as possible. That is what EQ7 is all about. I need to play around some more with mine. Good luck with work the next several days. Have a good one.
Im looking foreward to flollow this prosject. Is this the Kim McLean pattern ? It looks so nice...
This is going to be fabulous! And I LOVE the picture of Sage. What a cutie.
Crispy, I am so glad I am following you from the start of this journey. This quilt will be spectacular.
It looks wonderful!!I `ll looking forward your progress.
Looks great! How big will each block be? Seems I remember from following others they are smallish!
I love the nine block inside the star!!! That purple is so pretty.
What a pretty block the other will be, too! I like the idea of not overlapping the stems.
I still have EQ5 and never have learned to use it well for drawing applique. Probably never will as that would entail reading the manual and I don't do that. LOL.
This looks really promising! I can't wait to see you get started on it.
It's always interesting to see how people do things - I look forward to seeing your blocks as you start making them - a new project is so exciting! That's a whole lot of work - hope it goes by fast!
Bravo for taking on this challenge. It is a lovely quilt. I like that there is an equal amount of piecing for when you get bored with applique. You didn't mention what sort of fabric you will be using.
Very, very cool, Crispy!! I love the idea of using 9-patches for the center star. I still haven't decided on fabrics for this one. I'm tempted to use my repros (I've got, like, a bazillion! LOL) or use the light, bright Kaffe and such!! Yours will be uniquely you -- just the way it should be!!
Blessings,
Mary Lou
What a wonderful adventure - can't wait to see the progress.
I do love a new adventure! The nine-patch idea is a very good one and changing the template is an adventure in itself.
How exciting that you're doing this quilt. I love how you can do those blocks in EQ.
This is going to be a great quilt! I am interested in seeing how you do your stems on each block.
I hope all those days of work don't leave you too tired to sew.
as I alway say:
I never met a nine patch I didn't like -
great idea!!
Glad to see that you are back to quilting! I really like the idea of placing the 9-patch as the star center.
Crispy, I knew it couldn't be long before you started another quilting project LOL :)
I'm always amazed at your ease with EQ. I've used the Brush Stroke tool, but creating some applique shapes and placing them come hard to me.
This will be a wonderful adventure! I don't have EQ7 but I need to play more with my EQ5 - I am sure it can do much more than I am asking of it :)
Pretty cool!
That's going to be such a beautiful quilt. I can't wait to see your first block!
Your patterns are always so nice, you should do a block of the month. I bet you would be surprised by all the participation. The new photo of Saigey is just darling. She's really growing out of the baby stages and turning into a beautiful little girl.
I'm out of the nine patch for a while. Not that I don't like it, but after making so many, I decided to feed elsewhere. Love the block though. I'm loving the colours too. simplicity makes such lovely quilts!
I like your changes to the blocks! I look forward to watching your progress on this quilt. :)
