I had gotten half of it done, started the second half and decided that I didn't like the edges.....they were too tight (just knitted/purled the first stitch), so I tore the whole thing apart.....480 yards worth :0)
If nothing else I'm tenacious when learning a new craft LOL.
So now I've started a small sample of the pattern.
First I tried slipping the first stitch purl wise and always knitting the last stitch regardless if it was a knit or purl row. It made icky bumps that looked like they strangled the stitches and tended to make the edge tight again. So on the second repeat of the pattern I slipped the first stitch and knitted or purled the last stitch. It worked out great. Here's the difference:
Sorry the photo was a little blurry but my camera battery was dying so I didn't have time to play. Anyhoo, the plan is to finish this repeat, do the edge treatment and then washing and blocking the sample. I want to find out how well it will hold a block. I'm using Stroll yarn from Knit Picks which is 75% superwash merino wool and 25% nylon. I'm hoping it will block well so that the pattern shows off. I also purchased some green yarn that will be used in the final scarf. I'll show a picture once I get a good start on it.
Some day I will get back to quilting......in around 345 days LOL.

Oh, I forgot to tell you, the best part about working full time is I have dropped 30 pounds.....who had time to eat working the hours I was (no I wasn't skipping meals, just not eating so much at each meal) LOL. I could stand to loose another 60 but I'm not going to worry about that right now :0)

way to go on the weight loss!! that is one good thing of being busy - you are getting a little exercise too I bet even if you don't think you are besides smaller meals. I just do not have patience to learn how to knit well. I tried!! I gave up too easily. Maybe next year :)

I love that leaf-like pattern in knitting! It is so pretty!! I always slipped the last stitch on the row when I knit and got a lovely edge -- just like your'e getting.
Congratulations on the weight loss!
This looks very pretty!!!
That scarf pattern is beautiful! I admire your tenaciousness to get it right - I have these same tendencies - LOL! Congratulations on the weight loss!
That is such a beautiful pattern. I'm like you, keep doing it until I get it just right!
I hope I can remember this if I ever get back into knitting.
You wouldn't by any chance be a perfectionist!?! lol What a gorgeous pattern!!! It will be a fabulous scarf when you're finished :0) 345 days - hope they go by fast!
Your knitting is just as nice - way too hot for that here :)
Undoing so much knitting, well at least that is easier than undoing that much stitching. Well done on the weight loss. I bet you notice the difference.
You really are keen aren't you? I would have passed the whole thing on to my BFF's mother - a knititng whizz - and have a piece of chocolate cake. ann :-)
That certainly is determination to learn a new craft. Great job on the weight loss!
I'm impressed with the knitting AND the weight loss! Congrats! I've been on a holding pattern with the weight loss over the holidays, which is a victory for me...normally I really pork up over the holidays. Time to get on it again. Growing up in the south is my excuse for not knitting. Oh, I can do a little crocheting, but I am a poor example of a midwesterner because I can't knit. But I do like to see what everyone else is up to.
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
Crispy, The scarf looks so delicate and lacy. I love it :)
Congrats on the weight loss! That is awesome.
I love the design on the scarf - what a project. I am crocheting a shawl - much faster and I need it to keep warm THIS winter.
oh I love to see knitting too, keep sharing!
very pretty.
congrats on the weight loss another bonus of working!
Kathie
First congratulations on the weight loss!! yeah you!!
I love that scarf. When I first looked at it all I could see was peacock feathers. You should consider using a peacock color yarn. I just might comission you to make one of those for me to give my DD (she has hand raised some peacocks and would FLIP OUT over something like that scarf!!)
congrats on the weight loss!
and I love that knitting - beautiful! I like that kind of knitting when I am alone -otherwise I get too distracted and mess up the pattern
Looking good.
Well, that is one way to lose weight. Good for you.
We have so much in common! I think you're my sister and we were separated at birth! :)) I haven't told many people, but I lost 30 bs last year too! Doesn't it feel wonderful? My husband told my I have "my original face" back. Of course, he means the "face" I had when we met 21 yrs ago! Your knitting is just getting better and better!!
This is a lovely design. :)
Hang in there with the unknitting thing..this is so pretty, it will be well worth it. :)
Blessings always
Hang in there. You will discover a solution to your problem I am sure. Congrats on the weight loss.
It will be a wonderful shawl. Just have a look on my blog.
Have a nice day and take care

Wow, your scarf is lovely.. That's one thing I don't like about knitting/crocheting it's hard to keep the stitches consistent at least for me. I remember tearing out quite a bit of work on my first blanket. Hey good for you on the weight loss too. How is Aunt Millie's Garden coming along? That will be such a gorgeous quilt when it's finished. I have so many quilts in different stages at this point, need to finish a few myself these days.
Hey Crispy, Funny that I found a link to your blog, I was just thinking about you and wondering how yooou've been. I lost your blog when my old computer died.
I have been knitting alot the last 6 months as well.
Love your lace work. I am doing some Entrelac myself.
Congrats on the weight loss
